Chiltern Academy of Martial Arts

Thanks you for visiting the Chiltern Academy of Martial Arts! We teach a Wing Chun based system of self-defence, rooted firmly in the traditional Kung Fu values of INTEGRITY and RESPECT. Through the practice of the martial arts our students are encouraged to strive for BLACK SASH EXCELLENCE in every area of their lives, whether at home, school or work.

The term Kung Fu, so often synonymous with the Chinese Martial Arts, actually has nothing to do with fighting at all. It simply denotes an excellence achieved through perseverance and hard work over a long period of time. Our goal is to help our students to achieve this state so that they can become positive role models and leaders in today’s society.

What we are about:

We see the martial arts as a vehicle to help develop our students as more empowered and confident individuals. We help to change people’s lives by teaching them how to treat people with respect, have perseverance and to be proud of themselves. At the same time we get them in shape and teach them how to handle a dangerous situations in order to keep them safe.

Self-defence skills are an important part of our teaching and the Wing Chun system is very much focused on combat effectiveness. Our syllabus is interesting, relevant, and appropriate. The whole system can be learned in about three years, although it may take a life time to master!

Benefits of Wing Chun and Martial Arts

More than just learning the techniques of kicking or punching we promote the many benefits of martial arts training as a way of improving the quality of our student’s life. This becomes particularly relevant when we are teaching children with the many positive character traits that training can reinforce:

  • Focus & Concentration
  • Respect for others
  • Self-Discipline
  • Perseverance
  • Increased Health and Well-being
  • Ability to resist negative peer pressure
  • Bully-proofing
